I don’t know what it is about makeup but a lot of times I’ll find a product I really like, then a couple of months later I start searching for a new “holy grail”. (In case you weren’t familiar with this, the term “Holy Grail” is a term completely accepted in makeup circles as that one perfect item. It’s about as common as finding the real Holy Grail. Nearly any makeup review you read will mention whether that product is Holy Grail material or not.)
Several months ago I went on a search for another mascara. Everything I tried was too wet or too gobby or too . . . something. I finally found a Clarins mascara that I loved (Be Long). My lashes looked so lovely and natural and just perfect. But by the end of the day there were black flakes all over the place so I had to throw this mascara in the back of the drawer. Sometimes if I do my makeup in the evening and I know I won’t be out for more than a couple of hours I’ll still wear it. Sometimes mascara goes on heavy and my eyelashes look like lumpy spider legs. Not this one. Nothing has ever made my lashes look so naturally lovely. Too bad it flakes so badly.
Knowing that Clarins made such a nice mascara, I tried a different product of theirs, the Wonder Perfect mascara. It isn’t technically waterproof but it’s quite indestructible in reality. I quite liked it but didn’t love it. It was definitely a little wetter upon application than I prefer. But it was very good. Still, I kept searching.
Several mascaras later I was still not happy.
So I ordered another tube of Wonder Perfect (you know I’m not going to pay any $27 for mascara. I got it on eBay, new in the box for $18. $20 is my limit.)
I put my Wonder Perfect on yesterday and it was like the angels were singing again. I hadn’t realized how terrible so many of the other mascaras I had tried were until I got around to using my Wonder Perfect once more.
I can’t tell you how often this sort of experience happens to me (just recently with my concealer too. I’ll talk about that next week.)
I don’t know why I can’t be satisfied. Why I’m always on the lookout for that perfect makeup product. It’s just hope, I suppose. I’m nothing but optimistic when it comes to my face! I think I’ll stick with Wonder Perfect until this tube runs out. Then I’ll get makeup amnesia and start out all over again.
Personally, I love Dr. Hauschka’s mascara. I’m fair skinned redhead so their brown is fabulous but I wear the black when going out. It’s $5 past your budget but you can find it often on Zulily as well for less expensive. It’s also at Whole Foods. It goes on so smooth and doesn’t clump.

Thanks! I’ll have to check it out. Waiting with baited breath about the concealer. I’ve been using Cargo Blu_ray but it’s getting hard to find.
